Xi made the call during a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza on Wednesday, where he toured the facility with his wife, Peng Liyuan, alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, Entissar El-Sisi.
The museum, located near the Pyramids of Giza, houses important collections from ancient Egyptian civilization. During the visit, Xi and El-Sisi viewed several historic artefacts, including the gold burial mask and throne of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, as well as other ancient Egyptian treasures.
Xi described China and Egypt as two countries with ancient civilizations and rich cultural heritage. He said their historical interactions had helped build lasting ties between their peoples and should continue to provide a foundation for closer cooperation.
The Chinese president urged both countries to uphold an approach to relations among civilizations based on equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness. He also called for the implementation of the Global Civilization Initiative and greater efforts to encourage coexistence and understanding among different cultures.
According to Xi, stronger exchanges between civilizations can contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity by allowing countries to draw on each other's experiences and cultural strengths.
El-Sisi welcomed the emphasis on cultural cooperation, noting that ancient Egyptian and Chinese civilizations share traditions of openness, inclusiveness and harmonious coexistence despite their diversity.
The Egyptian president said his country is prepared to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges with China while promoting greater mutual understanding between civilizations.
The visit came as China and Egypt continue to expand cultural and diplomatic ties, including through exhibitions of ancient Egyptian artefacts in China and joint archaeological projects in Egypt.
Both leaders' emphasis on cultural exchange highlights the growing role of heritage and people-to-people connections in strengthening relations between the two countries.
