The concerns centre on alleged grading irregularities and technical problems associated with the expanded use of computer-based testing (CBT) in this year’s examination.
WAEC released the 2026 WASSCE results for school candidates earlier this month. The examination body said 61.54 per cent of candidates who sat the examination obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
The figure represents a decline of 1.42 percentage points from the previous year.
According to WAEC, 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools registered for the examination, while 1,950,726 eventually sat for the papers conducted between April 24 and June 19.
The council said the results of 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 per cent of those who sat the examination, had been fully processed and released. Results for another 116,031 candidates were still being processed because of unresolved issues.
The latest complaints have added to concerns surrounding the transition to CBT, as some schools have questioned whether technical difficulties and the new examination format may have affected candidates' results.
WAEC's results release followed a significant expansion of computer-based testing, although many examination centres continued to use the traditional paper-and-pencil format.
The council has previously defended the credibility of the 2026 results amid criticism and has maintained that its examination processes are designed to ensure reliable assessment.
For candidates who believe their results contain errors, WAEC has provided channels through which complaints and requests for clarification can be made.
The controversy comes as candidates begin using their results for admission and other academic purposes, making the accuracy and integrity of the examination outcome particularly important.
