JAY CLAYTON United States Director of National Intelligence
Trump has named the initiative the “Super Intelligence Force” and said it will coordinate federal efforts aimed at maintaining American leadership in advanced AI.
CLAYTON TO LEAD FEDERAL EFFORT
Clayton will oversee the new task force, which will work with a range of stakeholders including AI companies, consumer groups, public-interest organisations and providers of critical infrastructure.
Other officials named to the group include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.
The task force will report to Trump and his chief of staff, Susie Wiles.
AI COMPANIES ALREADY ENGAGED
The announcement comes after Trump hosted executives from major artificial intelligence companies at the White House.
Those companies agreed to a voluntary arrangement under which they would take steps to regulate aspects of AI development themselves.
The administration's latest move places the federal government more directly at the centre of efforts to coordinate the country's AI strategy.
US SEEKS TO MAINTAIN TECHNOLOGY LEAD
Trump said the initiative is intended to ensure the United States remains a global leader in what he describes as “super intelligence.”
The task force will examine the technology's impact across areas including consumers, businesses and critical infrastructure as the US government seeks to shape the development of advanced AI.
