The gathering took on a carnival-like atmosphere as music and political activities accompanied the defection ceremony, with apala musician Musiliu Haruna Ishola entertaining the crowd.
The defectors came from the nine local government areas that make up the Ogun East Senatorial District and were received by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who described their decision to join the APC as evidence of growing support for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abiodun told the new members that they had become part of the APC and urged them to return to their respective wards to mobilise support for the party.
The governor used the occasion to highlight projects executed by his administration since 2019, particularly in Ogun East.
He said more than 100 roads had been constructed across the senatorial district, including about 26 roads in Ijebu Ode. He also listed the Gateway International Airport, Olokola Deep Sea Port, Olokola Kajola Gas Industrial Free Zone and other infrastructure projects among the developments recorded by his administration.
Abiodun further announced that the reconstruction of the Ago Iwoye Ibadan Road would be flagged off on Monday in the presence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi. He said the project, which connects Ijebu Ode through Ago Iwoye to Ibadan, was secured with the support of President Bola Tinubu.
He also disclosed plans for the reconstruction of the Ilishan Ago-Iwoye Ijebu Igbo Road, Okun Owa Road, Aiyepe Odogbolu Road and Ikenne Aiyepe Road.
On the political front, Abiodun expressed confidence that the APC would retain its dominance in Ogun State in 2027, pointing to the party's control of both the federal and state governments.
He also expressed optimism that Ogun would soon join Nigeria's oil-producing states, while saying the development of the Olokola Deep Sea Port and revival of the Olokola LNG project would strengthen the economy of Ogun East.
The governor also called on residents of the South-West to support President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration's infrastructure and economic policies.
Earlier, Ogun APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi attributed the movement of opposition members into the APC to the performance of the Abiodun administration.
The event represents another significant movement of opposition figures into the APC in Ogun as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
