NIGERIA — Seven traders have been injured after gunmen opened fire on a vehicle travelling along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
‎
‎The shooting occurred on Sunday, October 4, as the traders were returning from Kara Market in Bukuru. The Plateau State Police Command said the vehicle carrying the traders was specifically targeted during the attack.
‎
‎ATTACK ON BUKURU EXPRESSWAY
‎
‎According to the police, the incident occurred at about 4:30pm along the Bukuru Expressway.
‎
‎The vehicle was carrying traders returning from Kara Market in Bukuru when the attackers opened fire.
‎
‎Seven injured victims were later traced to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks in Jos, where they were receiving medical treatment.
‎
‎The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation, and the identities and whereabouts of the attackers have not been established.
‎
‎POLICE LAUNCH INVESTIGATION
‎
‎The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Investigations to take full responsibility for the case.
‎
‎The police said the investigation is aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the shooting.
‎
‎The command condemned the attack and wished the injured victims a quick recovery.
‎
‎SECURITY TEAMS DEPLOYED
‎
‎Following the incident, tactical and anti-robbery teams were deployed to strengthen security around the affected area.
‎
‎The police also said intelligence gathering had been intensified to help identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
‎
‎Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies as the investigation continues.
‎
‎ATTACK RAISES CONCERNS OVER MARKET ROUTE
‎
‎The shooting has renewed concerns over the safety of people travelling along routes connected to the Kara Bukuru livestock market.
‎
‎The market attracts traders and other people involved in livestock-related activities, making the security of surrounding roads important for those travelling to and from the area.
‎
‎However, the motive behind Sunday's shooting has not been established, and authorities have not publicly identified those responsible.
‎
‎The police investigation is expected to determine what led to the attack and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
