The incident occurred in Tangaza Local Government Area after the boy, identified as Muhammad Sufiyanu, was reported missing by his uncle, Sani Ibrahim, at the Gidan Madi Police Station on August 11.
Following the report, detectives attached to the Gidan Madi Police Division launched a search operation. At about 11pm, the officers, accompanied by the complainant, intercepted two people travelling on a motorcycle while carrying a suspiciously concealed sack.
The suspects reportedly fled when challenged by the detectives, abandoning the sack during the pursuit. A search of the abandoned sack revealed the missing boy alive and responsive.
The child was immediately taken to Gidan Madi General Hospital, where he received medical attention before being discharged.
During preliminary investigation, the victim reportedly told the police that one of the suspects lured him into a room, injected him with a sedative and forced him into the sack before attempting to transport him away.
One suspect has been arrested and is assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals allegedly connected to the attempted abduction.
In a separate operation, police operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit also arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Abdullahi Buba, popularly known as “Osho,” at Tudun Doki Village in Gwadabawa Local Government Area.
Police authorities said Buba was allegedly linked to a criminal syndicate involved in kidnapping and the imposition of illegal levies on residents in parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, commended the officers involved in the operations and assured residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information that could assist in identifying and apprehending criminal suspects.
Investigations into the cases are ongoing.
