Disu made this known on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., while representing the Nigeria Police Force at the second United States-Nigeria Country of Particular Concern Joint Working Group meeting.
He said the training programme for the new recruits is being developed around an improved curriculum and international best practices.
The IGP said the recruitment initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and improve its response to security challenges across the country.
During the meeting, Disu highlighted the police force’s ongoing counter-kidnapping and anti-banditry operations, increased deployment in vulnerable communities and the use of early-warning measures.
He also emphasised the importance of cooperation between the police and communities, noting that the force has continued to engage traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders in addressing security concerns.
Disu reaffirmed the police commitment to counterterrorism, protection of civilians, human rights and adherence to the rule of law.
The meeting also reviewed progress under the United States-Nigeria Joint Working Group roadmap for the April to June 2026 reporting period and examined areas for deeper cooperation on security and law enforcement.
The development comes as the Nigeria Police Force continues efforts to expand its personnel strength and improve its ability to protect communities and respond to emerging security threats.
