Obi made the challenge on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during a town hall meeting with voters organised under the theme, “Obi Talks Nigeria,” where he responded to questions about the 2027 general election.
The former Anambra State governor said he and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had made details of their personal and educational backgrounds available for public scrutiny.
According to Obi, Nigerians and people around the world should verify the information about both politicians and raise any concerns they may have.
He also referred to his ongoing legal dispute with Kenneth Okonkwo, who served as his spokesperson during the 2023 presidential campaign. Obi said the legal action followed claims by Okonkwo that he had information about Obi’s past that could shock Nigerians.
Obi said he welcomed the opportunity for such claims to be made publicly and challenged anyone with information about wrongdoing by him or Kwankwaso to come forward.
He said, “If there is anything that you know I have done that is wrong, say it out now,” while extending the challenge to anyone who knows of any wrongdoing by Kwankwaso.
The NDC presidential candidate also stressed the importance of transparency and credibility in the political process, arguing that people seeking Nigeria’s highest political office should be subjected to proper scrutiny.
His comments come as political parties and opposition groups intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the records, backgrounds and credibility of prospective candidates increasingly becoming subjects of public debate.
Obi's challenge adds to the growing political contest ahead of the election, as candidates seek to convince voters that they have the integrity and experience required to lead the country.
