In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the campaign council alleged that more than 10 black Hilux vehicles carrying armed personnel arrived at the Speaker’s residence and surrounded the premises.
The council further claimed that the residence had been effectively sealed, preventing people inside from leaving.
Olajengbesi said the campaign attempted to contact the Commissioner of Police responsible for election security in the state and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the election, but the efforts were unsuccessful.
The allegation comes as voting gets underway across Osun State, with security agencies deployed to maintain order during the governorship poll.
The campaign council’s statement focused on the alleged restriction of movement at the Speaker’s residence, but the report did not establish the identity or purpose of the security personnel involved.
The development adds to the heightened political and security attention surrounding Saturday’s election, as voters across the state head to polling units to choose the next governor.
The Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, is a member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing the Egbedore/Ola-Oluwa constituency.
