The command also announced the arrest of a 20-year-old suspected armed robber, Yusuf Musa, who was allegedly involved in a housebreaking operation in the Maitumbi area of Minna. Police said several stolen household items were recovered during the investigation.
According to the police, officers attached to the Chanchaga Division carried out midnight raids on September 1 around identified criminal hotspots in Angwan-Dakoko, Angwan-Kwakwa and Angwan-Gwari, where 12 suspects were arrested.
Among those arrested were Victor Solomon, 25, also known as Tumbeleke, who was allegedly found with a dagger, and Osama Saidu Baushe, 17, who was allegedly carrying a sword. The suspects were taken into custody for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate operation on August 24, police officers from the Kpakungu Division arrested six suspects around Angwan-Kanawa, Kpakungu. Police said suspected cannabis, a cutlass, scissors and a bag containing other illicit items were recovered.
Three additional suspects were arrested the following day in the Marikichi area after a fight allegedly broke out among them. Police said one of the suspects used a cutlass to seriously injure another on the right hand. The injured man was taken to a hospital for treatment, while the suspects were subsequently charged to court.
Police also reported the arrest of Yusuf Musa in Maitumbi on September 5. Investigators allege that he and another suspect, identified as Danjuma, broke into a house in the area on September 4 and stole several items, including a television, an orthopaedic bed, clothes, a generator, shoes, solar street lights and security cameras.
The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest Danjuma and recover the remaining stolen property.
In another development, officers recovered a locally made pistol at a mining site in Dogon-Ruwa village, Bosso Local Government Area, after receiving information that a firearm had been spotted at the location.
The command said the firearm has been taken for investigation as officers work to establish how it got to the mining site and who may have been responsible for leaving it there.
The Niger State Police Command said investigations into the various cases are ongoing, while efforts continue to track down other suspects connected to the reported crimes.
