Atletico took control of the game from the opening minutes and established a three-goal advantage before half-time.
Alex Baena opened the scoring in the fourth minute after receiving a well-timed pass from Lee Kang-in before firing a low effort into the net.
Lookman then doubled Atletico’s lead in the 26th minute, finding the back of the net with a composed finish inside Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos’ near post.
The Nigerian’s goal capped an impressive attacking performance from Atletico, who continued to put pressure on the hosts.
Baena added his second goal seven minutes later, sending a powerful effort into the bottom corner from outside the penalty area after being set up by Marcos Llorente.
Sevilla pull one back
Sevilla returned from the interval with greater intensity and managed to reduce the deficit through Miguel Sierra, who scored with a volley.
The hosts attempted to build momentum and find a route back into the contest, but Atletico remained organised and prevented Sevilla from adding another goal.
The visitors ultimately held on for a convincing victory and three valuable points.
Lookman makes an impact
Lookman’s goal represents another positive moment for the Nigerian international as he continues to establish himself as an important attacking option for Atletico.
His contribution was particularly significant on a night when the Spanish side were without Julian Alvarez, whose future at the club remains the subject of considerable speculation.
Alvarez was left out of Atletico’s matchday squad for the trip to Seville after being booed by sections of the club’s support during last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Villarreal.
The Argentine striker has been linked with a possible move away from Atletico, with Barcelona and Arsenal among the clubs reportedly associated with his situation. Atletico, however, have repeatedly indicated that they do not intend to let their star forward leave.
