Iran Warns Countries Against Joining US Sanctions, Says They Could Be Considered Enemies

The warning was issued on Saturday by Mohsen Rezai, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, during comments broadcast on Iranian state television.
Rezai urged governments not to take part in what he described as the United States’ “economic war” against Iran.
He warned that countries that refuse to distance themselves from Washington’s campaign could face consequences, saying Iran would move against their interests.
Rezai also claimed that Iran had not yet targeted American economic interests during the conflict, saying its attacks so far had focused on US military bases.
He warned that if Washington moved to impose economic sanctions on Iran, American oil and economic companies operating around Iran and elsewhere could become targets.
“If Trump takes action, our confrontation will be like an earthquake,” Rezai said, according to the report.
The United States has been seeking support from other governments for its efforts to isolate Iran economically, including from China, one of Tehran’s major strategic partners.
China has criticised the US initiative, arguing that sanctions would not resolve the wider conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates, one of Iran’s major trading partners, announced on Tuesday that it was suspending trade and financial transactions with Tehran until further notice.
The latest warning comes as pressure on Iran’s economy increases amid the ongoing confrontation with the United States.
