China’s robotics industry is increasingly gaining recognition for its advances in reliability, intelligence and practical applications, as manufacturers move beyond demonstrations and bring more machines into factories, warehouses and public-service environments.

‎The growing momentum was highlighted following the recently concluded 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, where Chinese companies showcased a broad range of robotic technologies, including humanoid machines, industrial systems and robots designed for specialised tasks.

‎The event demonstrated how quickly the industry is moving from experimental development towards wider commercial use, with robots now being developed for applications that require greater autonomy, precision and adaptability.

‎Robotics market continues to expand

‎The strength of China's robotics sector is also reflected in its latest financial figures.

‎Enterprises above the designated size in the country's robotics industry recorded 165.5 billion yuan ($24.6 billion) in operating revenue during the first half of 2026, representing a 24.5 percent increase year-on-year.

‎The growth comes as demand rises for technologies that combine artificial intelligence, advanced sensors, computing systems and precision machinery.

‎Humanoid robots are emerging as one of the most closely watched areas of the industry, with Chinese manufacturers rapidly expanding production and improving their capabilities.

‎During the first half of the year, global humanoid robot shipments reached about 19,100 units, up from roughly 5,100 during the same period last year. Chinese manufacturers accounted for more than 97 percent of global shipments, according to industry research cited in recent market data.

‎From demonstrations to real-world use

‎One of the most significant changes in the sector is the growing focus on practical applications.

‎Robots are increasingly being tested and deployed in areas such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, public services and hazardous environments.

‎In China's logistics industry, for example, humanoid robots have begun working alongside human employees at parcel-processing facilities. Other automated machines, including autonomous delivery vehicles and drones, are also being used to improve efficiency across logistics operations.

‎The expansion of these applications is helping companies identify where robotic systems can deliver genuine productivity gains rather than simply serve as technology demonstrations.

‎AI driving the next stage

‎Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in the development of more capable robots.

‎The industry is moving towards machines that can perceive their surroundings, make decisions and perform tasks with less dependence on human control.

‎This shift is particularly important for humanoid robots, where advances in motion control, sensors, computing and AI models are allowing machines to operate in increasingly complex environments.

‎At the same time, China's large manufacturing base is giving domestic robotics companies access to established supply chains for components such as motors, batteries, sensors and controllers.

‎Growing opportunities ahead

‎The continued expansion of the robotics industry is creating opportunities for technology suppliers while increasing demand for processors, cameras, connectivity systems, memory, power-management components and sensing technologies.

‎However, industry development still faces challenges, particularly in integrating hardware, artificial intelligence, communications and motion-control systems while keeping production costs competitive.

‎As Chinese manufacturers continue to improve reliability and scale production, the country's robotics sector is positioning itself for a larger role in global automation and embodied AI.

‎The latest developments suggest that China's robotics industry is entering a new stage one where success will increasingly be measured not only by how advanced a robot appears, but by how effectively it can perform useful tasks in the real world.
