Xi made the remarks on Monday during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting came months after Putin's state visit to China in May, when the two leaders agreed to guide relations toward higher-quality and higher-level development from a long-term strategic perspective.
Xi said the agreements reached during that visit are being actively implemented by authorities in both countries, with a number of concrete results already emerging. He expressed confidence that continued coordination between Beijing and Moscow would further strengthen the foundation of bilateral relations, ensure stable progress and open up brighter prospects.
Putin, for his part, described the development of China-Russia cooperation as rapid and said Moscow is prepared to maintain frequent high-level exchanges with Beijing.
He identified trade, energy, industry, transportation, science and technology as areas where the two sides could further expand cooperation, while also calling for greater people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
The two leaders also discussed the changing international environment, which Xi said is marked by growing uncertainty and profound shifts.
Despite those challenges, Xi noted that the global pursuit of peace, development, cooperation and mutually beneficial outcomes remains unchanged.
He also highlighted the role of the SCO in supporting regional stability and development, saying China is ready to work with Russia and other members to keep the organization moving forward and contribute to improvements in global governance.
Putin similarly stressed the importance of closer China-Russia coordination within the SCO, saying the two countries should strengthen their cooperation and play a constructive role in the organization's development.
Beyond the SCO, Putin said Russia is willing to deepen coordination with China through multilateral platforms including the United Nations, BRICS and the G20.
The latest meeting underscores the breadth of China-Russia cooperation, which has increasingly extended beyond traditional economic areas into science and technology, transportation, cultural exchanges and multilateral affairs.
With both sides emphasizing strategic coordination and practical cooperation, the relationship appears set to remain an important element of the regional and wider international landscape.
