Benue Attack: Police Officer Killed as Armed Herders Storm Security Checkpoint
‎A police officer has been killed after suspected armed herders attacked a security checkpoint in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

‎The attack was part of a wider assault on communities in the area, with several residents also reported killed during the violence.

‎The affected communities include Aondona, Ahume, Tyolaha and Tse-Ubiam, where attackers reportedly moved through different locations during the weekend.

‎The police officer, identified as Magaji, was stationed at a checkpoint along the Naka axis. He was reportedly killed after exhausting his ammunition while attempting to respond to the attackers.

‎The Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area, Victor Ormin, said the violence had left communities devastated, describing the situation as a serious security crisis.

‎Residents in the affected areas were forced to flee as the attackers moved through the communities, while security personnel worked to respond to the situation.

‎Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the attacks and called for stronger security measures to protect residents and prevent further violence.

‎The governor also expressed support for the position of traditional rulers in the state concerning the presence of armed criminal elements in Benue communities.

‎Security authorities are expected to continue efforts to restore calm and protect communities affected by the attacks.
